The Cottonwoods are a Salt Lake City-based folk rock trio fronted by songwriter Christopher Parker, with Joe Conroy on bass and Chad Dean on drums. Since 2016, they’ve brought their signature blend of classic rock covers and heartfelt originals to stages across Utah and beyond.
Rooted in the storytelling tradition of Americana, The Cottonwoods’ sound is shaped by Parker’s soulful voice and acoustic guitar, layered with driving rhythms and rich bass lines. Whether he’s parked in a van in the Colorado mountains or wandering the Utah desert, Parker is always writing—drawing inspiration from the wild places he climbs and calls home.
Their latest EP, Cliff Notes, showcases Parker’s lyrical depth and folk-blues sensibility. From the emotional resonance of “Climbers” to the wild tale of “Yosemite Gold,” the songs reflect a life spent chasing summits and stories. As Climbing Magazine puts it, Parker “combines acoustic guitar melodies with a soulful voice,” capturing the spirit of the high country in every note.
